FAQs

  • May I attend Pinewood services as a guest?

Yes. We ask our guests to sign our guestbook when visiting for the first time. If you’re interested in the pastor contacting you, he will do so according to whichever contact information you provide.

  • Who can commune at Pinewood?

Those who have placed themselves under our spiritual care through instruction and church membership may commune. We extend this also to those who have this same status at one of our fellowship congregations in the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) and in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Those who wish to be guests at the altar need to speak to the pastor before the service begins.

  • How do I become a member at Pinewood?

Those interested in membership need only make an appointment with the pastor to go through the adult instruction (catechesis) class, which is a summary of the teachings of the Bible and the historic practices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Having completed this instruction, a person may become a member of the congregation.

  • What is the worship style at Pinewood?

Our worship is reverent toward God, respectful of His Word, and dignified by the use of time-honored and meaningful Christian practice. The parts of our service come from the Bible through centuries of use. The congregation responds with hymns and phrases that are sung and spoken. This is the style of worship that some call “traditional”. We believe that our worship unites heaven and earth through the presence of God in Jesus Christ.

  • Do children attend the service with their parents?

Yes. The Holy Spirit works through His Word, also among children—even if they do not yet fully understand all of the words that are being spoken and sung. It is important that they learn to take part in worship early in life so that it goes along with them into later life. The pastor invites children to come up to the front for a “sermon introduction” in which a certain “big word” from that day’s lesson is highlighted and explained with encouragement that they listen for the word in the sermon they are about to hear. Parents are encouraged to bring along a little snack or a book to occupy children in difficult moments during the service, and to make use of the entryway or fellowship hall adjacent to the sanctuary if necessary.
